Clinical Coder

Location: Hutt Hospital

Contract: Permanent, Part Time – 0.75 FTE

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated clinical coding professional to join our team supporting services across the Hutt Valley, Wellington, and Wairarapa. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference through high quality work that supports clinical care, patient outcomes, and operational improvement.

You’ll be part of a service that works collaboratively across the district, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and reliable support for our clinical and operational teams. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, values strong relationships, and likes to contribute to service improvement.

About the Team/Service Location

You’ll be joining a small, supportive, and highly engaged team based at Hutt Hospital. We work closely together, share expertise, and take pride in fostering a friendly and solutions focused working environment. Because our team is small, your ideas will be heard and your contributions will have real impact.

We operate as a district service, providing consistent support and knowledge across all sites. You will collaborate with colleagues from different locations while still enjoying the benefits of belonging to a close-knit team.

The role is primarily based at Hutt Hospital, offering:

  • A welcoming, community focused workplace
  • Easy access to public transport
  • Onsite facilities and amenities
  • Opportunities to build strong relationships across clinical and non clinical teams

We also support flexible working arrangements, including the ability to work from home for part of the week where appropriate. This allows the balance of being on site for collaboration while having focused time for independent work.

Working within our district service means you will enjoy variety, connection, and the opportunity to influence systems and outcomes beyond a single location.

About you

You will bring:

  • Experience in coding in ICD-10AM 12th Edition.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • A proactive and solution focused approach
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A commitment to quality, consistency, and service improvement
