Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.3 FTE Rostered and Rotating

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

As the Clinical Midwife Manager, you will provide senior clinical leadership and coordination to ensure the safe and effective day-to-day operation of the maternity unit. You will oversee maternity admissions and elective procedures, including inductions of labour, while balancing clinical priorities, patient flow, and service capacity.

You will be responsible for coordinating and allocating staff according to clinical need, managing short-notice roster changes, and proactively planning workforce requirements for upcoming shifts to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained. In emergency situations, you will provide calm, decisive leadership, coordinating care and managing critical events while working closely with the multidisciplinary team.

Working at the centre of the service, you will facilitate seamless, whānau-centred care by building strong relationships with maternity staff, access holders, and a wide range of support services, including Social Work, Oranga Tamariki, Maternal Mental Health, Hauora Māori services, NGOs, Laboratory Services, Theatre, and ICU teams.

You will also play a key role in fostering a positive, collaborative, and supportive culture where staff, students, and maternity access holders feel respected, valued, and empowered. Through coaching, teaching, and professional support, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the maternity workforce and help ensure excellence in care for women, pēpi, and whānau.
