Health Care Assistant - Hutt Dialysis Unit


Location: Hutt Hospital

Contract: Permanent part time position, 0.44 FTE, 35 hours / fortnight, working 5 x 7-hour shifts, rostered and rotating, am shift 0700-1430, pm shift 1400-2130.

About the Role 

This is an essential role in facilitating the smooth running of activities in the Hutt Dialysis Unit.

This position ensures daily unit activities to support patient care are met, including setting up dialysis machines, preparing supplies for patient treatment, restocking, cleaning equipment, and general support to the Dialysis Unit nursing team to meet service needs. There is an identified task list.

Position available for a Health Care Assistant working 5 x 7 hour shifts a fortnight, working Monday – Sunday on a rostered and rotating basis. Shift times are 0700 -1430 hours and 1400 - 2130 hours. Applicants must be able to work any day of the week and shift. There is no set shift pattern.

About the Team/Service 

The dialysis team are dynamic, multi-cultural, hardworking and committed to the delivery of a high standard of patient care. Team members facilitate a friendly and supportive environment, where all team members are valued and appreciated for what they bring to the team.

As a health care assistant, you will work alongside the registered nurses who all work across our 3 dialysis units, so you will enjoy working with different team members each shift.

Team members are well supported by senior nurses within the renal service.

About you 

You will be someone who enjoys working in a team committed to providing a safe and positive environment for patients receiving treatment. You will be someone who is comfortable working in a healthcare setting, and who wants to make a difference. You will be able to demonstrate the following

  • Level 3 NZQA qualification or working towards
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Positive work attitude
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to work under direction but also carry out tasks independently
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting beneficial
  • Level 3 NZQA qualification or working towards
