Allied Health Assistant


Hutt Hospital, part of Hutt Valley District Health Board is a busy 270 bed general district hospital, serving a population of around 145,000. We provide most secondary services, as well as being the tertiary centre for regional plastic, maxillofacial and burns services, the regional rheumatology and school dental services and the greater Wellington public health and breast screening services.


The Occupational Therapy service provides assessment and intervention for patients/clients within the hospital or based in the community. Services are based in ED/MAPU, the acute wards, the rehabilitation wards, outpatient services and community occupational therapy.


We are looking for an Allied Health Assistant to join our team in a permanent, part time position (72 hours per fortnight). The role is based in our short term loan equipment store with equipment delivery and installation carried out in patients homes.

This role includes providing client education and the delivery, installation and training in the use of adaptive equipment in client’s homes. The role will also include responding to staff and client enquiries, cleaning and maintaining our short term loan equipment stock, maintaining accurate tracking of short term loan equipment, ordering long term equipment and completing environmental visits on behalf of therapists.

The ideal candidate will have great time management skills, provide a customer focused service when under pressure and enjoy working with older adults and people with disabilities. Hours of work are Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00 am to 4.30 pm.


  • Experience of direct patient care in the health sector
  • Experience with adaptive equipment
  • An understanding of the role of allied health, nursing and medical staff
  • An understanding of the impact of age/illness/disability on ability to achieve activities of daily living
  • Able to work alone with patients in home or community setting
  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (level 3) Health Assistance or willing to work towards this when starting the role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet resources and e-mail and ability to learn new computer programmes

You will need to have a good level of physical fitness and have a full unrestricted drivers licences with the ability to drive a manual and automatic car.
