Consultant Intensive Care Medicine (Intensivist)

Contract:  Permanent, part time (0.781 FTE with on call commitments)

About the role

This is an opportunity for a qualified Intensivist to provide senior clinical care and leadership within Hutt Hospital ICU.

You will manage critically unwell patients across intensive and high dependency care, participate in the acute on-call roster, and provide specialist advice across the hospital. The role includes oversight of PARS and MET activity when on call, supervision and teaching of junior medical staff, and active involvement in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development.

There is flexibility to work solely at Hutt Hospital or as part of a combined role across Hutt Hospital and Wellington Regional Hospital.

About the service

Hutt Hospital ICU is an eight-bed intensive and high dependency care service supporting medical, surgical and regional specialist patients. We are a collaborative team of medical, nursing and allied health professionals, working closely with PARS, MET and services across the hospital.

Our service is expanding its critical care capability, including acute haemofiltration, 24/7 PARS cover and progression toward Level 2 ICU recognition. We value clinical excellence, collegiality, teaching and continuous improvement.

About you

  • Vocationally registered in Intensive Care Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) 
  • Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent to be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ'
  • Interest in working across ED and ICU desirable, but not essential 
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
