Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

A rewarding opportunity has opened for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to take a role in shaping the care and wellbeing of women, babies, and whānau across our vibrant Hutt Valley community.
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care, including managing acute and non-acute cases.
- Lead the antenatal service provision, with a specific focus on diabetes in pregnancy.
- Manage high-risk pregnancies, working closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians and maternal-foetal medicine specialists.
- Provide mentorship to junior medical staff, fostering a culture of learning, development, and clinical excellence.
- Leadership in clinical governance, service improvement and maternity triage.
- Play a key role in shaping the future leadership and direction of maternity care in the Hutt Valley region with aspirations to provide clinical leadership in this field in the future
We're seeking someone with a special interest in advanced antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. Completion of a RANZCOG Advanced Training Module or equivalent international qualification is highly desirable.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Just 20 minutes from Wellington, Hutt Hospital is a 260-bed teaching hospital offering an outstanding professional environment and genuine lifestyle balance, with over 1,800 deliveries annually, strong regional subspecialty support, and a collaborative team of 10 Obstetricians and Gynaecologists spanning interests from advanced laparoscopic surgery and urogynaecology to fertility care and abortion services.
We are a proud teaching hospital, accredited for RANZCOG training, working closely with Otago University medical students and Trainee Interns
Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.
About you
We're seeking a motivated and enthusiastic clinician with a genuine passion for improving women’s health across the Hutt Valley. This is your chance to make a real difference within a supportive and skilled team of Senior Medical Officers (SMOs).

- Has a strong teaching ethos and supports junior medical staff through education and mentorship
- Demonstrates expertise in advanced antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care
- Is confident in managing complex maternal conditions in a multi-disciplinary environment and also general acute gynaecological presentations
What you need:
- Hold RANZCOG Fellowship with Advanced Training Modules (ATM) or equivalent international qualifications in areas such as advanced obstetrics, , foetal medicine or other specialties that enhance our current team
- A formal qualification or a strong clinical interest in obstetric ultrasound is desirable although not mandatory
- Be eligible or hold vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Be either an experienced specialist or a newly qualified Fellow ready to make an impact
