About the Role 

District Nursing is a highly skilled and diverse specialty that delivers complex clinical care across the community. This role offers the opportunity to work autonomously while managing a varied caseload encompassing acute and chronic conditions, advanced wound management, intravenous therapies, palliative care, long-term condition management, and comprehensive health assessment.

As a District Nurse, you will utilise your clinical judgement and critical thinking skills every day, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to provide expert nursing care that prevents hospital admission, supports early discharge, and enables people to receive treatment in their community. No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for nurses who enjoy variety, professional autonomy, and building expertise across a broad clinical scope

District Nursing offers the unique opportunity to develop specialist skills while making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes. You will work closely with patients and whānau, delivering person-centred care and supporting individuals to achieve the best possible quality of life and independence

Hours of work are predominantly Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.30pm, with up to one weekend per month and occasional afternoon shifts from 12.30pm to 9.00pm.

About the Team/Service/Location 

Our Community Health Service delivers a wide range of specialist nursing services, with a strong focus on providing person-centred care and improving health outcomes for our communities.

You'll be joining a supportive, experienced and collaborative team made up of District Nurses, Associate Clinical Nurse Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Health Care Assistants and Administrative Support staff. We are committed to helping our nurses thrive, offering a comprehensive orientation programme, ongoing professional development opportunities and encouragement to expand both clinical knowledge and specialist skills.

About you 

We are looking for passionate and adaptable registered nurses who are excited about delivering care in the community and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

You will bring strong clinical skills and a commitment to supporting people to remain safe, healthy and independent at home.

Key skills include:

• Acute and chronic wound management
• Acute assessment skills, including recognising and responding to clinical deterioration
• Administration and management of IV therapies
• Catheter management
• Holistic assessment skills that support people to live well and independently at home
