About the Role 

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our Outpatient Service at Hutt Hospital. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work alongside nurses, doctors, and other health professionals to support the delivery of high-quality patient care across a range of outpatient specialties.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting clinic operations and enhancing the patient experience. Responsibilities include assisting with patient care, preparing clinical areas, maintaining equipment and supplies, supporting clinic flow, and ensuring patients feel welcomed and supported throughout their visit.

This role requires flexibility, initiative, and a commitment to providing safe, patient-centred care in a busy outpatient environment.

About the Team/Service/Location 

The Outpatient Service at Hutt Hospital provides specialist assessment, treatment, and follow-up care across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. Our service operates across four outpatient locations within Hutt Hospital and delivers care through a combination of consultant-led, nurse-led, multidisciplinary, and allied health clinics.

We are a busy and diverse service, supporting thousands of patients each year through a variety of specialty clinics, including both acute and planned care pathways. Healthcare Assistants are an important part of the team, helping to ensure clinics run efficiently while supporting patients throughout their outpatient journey.

You will be joining a supportive and collaborative team of nurses, healthcare assistants, medical specialists, administrators, and allied health professionals who are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care. About you 

You are a caring and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with people and contributing to a positive patient experience. You have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to remain organised in a fast-paced clinical environment.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably as a Healthcare Assistant.
  • A genuine commitment to providing respectful and compassionate patient care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to the changing needs of the service.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and health equity principles
