Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent, split role infectious diseases/antimicrobial stewardship clinical pharmacist and Quality Advisor position. You are excited about promoting antimicrobial stewardship in hospital and community, the visions we share at Te Whatu Ora-Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley, and the future of our dynamic pharmacy profession.
Your primary role as the ID/AMS clinical pharmacist will be to work as part of the Infectious Diseases and Infection, Prevention, and Control teams providing advice and support to a range of medical, rehabilitation, surgical, and/or speciality teams. The role includes participation in ward rounds, medicines reconciliation, therapeutic drug monitoring, discharge counselling, dispensary services, mentoring, and promoting the overall safe and quality use of medicines, with an emphasis on antibiotics. You would be expected to provide high-quality, effective antimicrobial-focused clinical pharmacy services with the aim of improving patient outcomes and ensuring optimal medicines utilisation.

The pharmacy and Infection, Prevention & Control teams are well respected by clinicians, nursing staff, and senior management across the organisation, and is constantly looking at ways to improve the service and care it delivers. As a pharmacy department, we have a strong clinical presence across all areas of the hospital and linkages into our local community. We provide a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical care and extended roles to a variety of clinical areas. Our team values professional growth and continuous improvement, while emphasising clinical development and medicines optimisation for our patients.
Moū – About you
You are a practising pharmacist with at least two years of clinical experience (hospital experience required), and a valid NZ APC in good standing. You are highly self-motivated, enjoy working with other health professionals, and can demonstrate effective teamwork and communication. You are also keen to share your clinical experience with the rest of the pharmacy team, as well as other healthcare professionals.
