Our Breast Imaging team have an opportunity for a Mammography Trainee. 

We’re looking for Medical Imaging Technologists, Diagnostic Mammographers or Radiation Therapists who wish to expand their career in the field of Mammography. Join our friendly and supportive team delivering Breast Screening and Symptomatic Mammography for the Wellington region. The department will support you in working towards a Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography.

Your typical week would involve performing Breast Screening and Symptomatic mammography, setting up equipment for stereotactic, vacuum and localisation procedures and assisting with those procedures. QA testing of equipment is also a routine procedure. You would regularly liaise with our multi-disciplinary team which includes radiologists, breast care nurses and breast surgeons.

You will work as part of a team providing Mammography services and you will receive comprehensive training and support to complete the PgCert in Mammography.  Your training will help you to deliver high-quality, patient-centred services. 

Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

The base for Breast Screen Central (BSC)   is at Hutt Valley Hospital, 20 minutes’ drive from Wellington CBD   where we have three state of the art digital mammography units incorporating Tomosynthesis. We are also the first public facility in the country to carry out Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM).

BSC provides breast screening for women in the Greater Wellington region and a Breast Symptomatic service for women under the care of Hutt Valley and Wairarapa District. The Breast Centre and employs 50 – 55 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff, including 10.5 FTE qualified Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs), who screen around 29,000 women per year at three fixed sites and on a mobile screening unit.   In addition, a further 2500 women receive symptomatic breast imaging each year.
