Contract: (Full-Time 12-Month Fixed-Term Secondment - Hutt Maternity Services)

Hutt Maternity is seeking expressions of interest from experienced and passionate midwives for the role of Midwife Educator.

This is an exciting full-time, 12-month fixed-term secondment opportunity for a senior midwife who is committed to professional development, clinical excellence, and improving outcomes for wāhine, pēpi and whānau.

Open to current HNZ midwives looking to further develop their leadership, education, and service improvement skills, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a district-wide impact while advancing your own professional growth.

Working alongside the District Chief Midwife and maternity leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in building workforce capability and supporting the delivery of safe, evidence-based, culturally responsive maternity care across our district.

The Opportunity

The Midwife Educator is responsible for leading the development, delivery, and evaluation of maternity education programmes that support clinical competence and professional growth across maternity services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and delivering education programmes, workshops, simulation training, and study days.
• Identifying workforce learning needs and developing innovative educational solutions.
• Supporting orientation and onboarding for new staff and maternity access holders.
• Leading and supporting the Midwifery New Graduate Programme.
• Mentoring and coaching midwives throughout their professional development journey.
• Supporting multidisciplinary learning across maternity and associated services.
• Contributing to service improvement, clinical governance, and leadership initiatives.
• Promoting evidence-based, culturally safe maternity care and professional excellence.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a midwife who is passionate about developing others and committed to advancing maternity care through education and leadership.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum of five years' midwifery experience.
• Relevant postgraduate qualification, or currently working towards one.
• Experience as a preceptor, mentor, clinical coach, or educator.

Desirable attributes include achievement of the QLP Leadership Domain, experience developing e-learning resources, and a willingness to provide support across the district where required.
