Nurse Coordinator Screening
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital or Hutt Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.7 FTE

About the Role
This is a new and exciting role, offering the opportunity to provide senior clinical leadership across Regional Screening Programmes. This is a newly established role that provides a valuable opportunity to engage with communities and health providers. The position plays a key role in promoting the importance of health screening, supporting increased participation, and strengthening connections across primary care, community services, and screening programmes to improve health outcomes.
The Nurse Coordinator – Screening Services strengthens system-wide capability to improve screening participation, equity, and health outcomes. The role builds and maintains strong, trusted relationships with community-based practices, primary care, and partner services to support the delivery of safe, effective, and equitable screening services, aligned with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora priorities and national screening programme requirements.
Working at an advanced practice level, the Nurse Coordinator delivers expert clinical leadership, advice, and guidance across screening services. The role contributes to service development, continuous quality improvement, and health promotion initiatives, ensuring services remain responsive and evidence informed.
The position works in close partnership with the Equity Team and other clinical and professional leaders to embed equity-focused approaches, address barriers to access and participation, and improve screening outcomes for Māori, Pacific, and other priority populations.
This is a senior designated nursing leadership role with no direct line management responsibilities. It requires a high level of professional judgement, autonomy, and clinical credibility to influence practice, support workforce capability, and provide authoritative nursing advice within a complex and evolving health system. Leadership is exercised through professional influence, collaboration, and advanced clinical expertise, promoting consistent, high-quality practice across the district.
About the Team/Service/Location
Regional Screening Services provides access to free breast, cervical, and public bowel screening programmes, working in partnership with symptomatic breast services to ensure continuity of care. The service is based at Hutt Hospital and supports populations across the Hutt, Wairarapa, and Wellington districts.
- Extensive clinical experience with demonstrated credibility to provide expert nursing advice and influence practice, aligned with progression on the Senior Nurse PDRP pathway
- Proven ability to work autonomously, applying sound professional judgement in complex and evolving healthcare environments
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience supporting workforce development and continuous quality improvement
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, enabling effective collaboration across services, disciplines, and stakeholders
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, ongoing professional development, and delivery of high-quality patient care
