Nurse Educator - Emergency Department

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Nurse Educator to join our dynamic team supporting the Emergency Department. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to clinical excellence and staff development in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
As part of our dedicated Nurse Educator team, you’ll work alongside supportive education management to deliver high-quality training and professional development. Your role will be pivotal in promoting safe care and continuous learning through a structured education and training programme tailored for emergency nurses.
Hutt Emergency Department (ED) is a level 4 emergency care service which sees approximately 46,000 patients a year. Patient acuity ranges from `walking wounded` to life threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest and trauma. The team comprises over 100 full time equivalent (FTE) medical and nursing staff together with health care assistants and administrative staff.
Hutt Emergency Department is accredited by the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine to provide advanced training in Emergency Medicine. The Department prides itself on advanced nursing roles and has well established pathways and education to support professional development and learning opportunities for individuals wanting to progress into leadership roles. The salary range is NZNO Meca $117,907 – $121,444 (pro rata).
About the Team/Service Location
The Hutt Valley Nurse Educator team comprises of 17 dedicated Nurse Educators who deliver education across the hospital, supporting our nursing staff. They are led by the Charge Nurse Manager Education and collaborate closely with the Workforce and Practice Development Unit (W&PDU) to foster an environment of continuous education and professional growth, ensuring our workforce delivers top-tier, safe services.
About you
The ideal candidate will bring the following:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- At least three years’ post-graduate nursing experience, with demonstrated expertise in Emergency nursing
- Previous experience as a Nurse Educator is essential
- Proven ability to coach, teach, and engage staff across all levels
- A strong commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equity for Māori
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Office applications
- A current Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP)
- A postgraduate qualification in nursing is preferred
