ABOUT THE SERVICE
Regional Public Health (RPH) is one of the three larger public health units in New Zealand and as such often takes on a national leadership role. RPH provides public health services to the greater Wellington region, including Wairarapa (population of approximately 515,000).
ABOUT THE ROLE
We have the right role for an experienced public health advisor with a passion for improving the health of our population.
The Public Health Advisor (PHA) will be responsible for the efficient, effective and equity focused delivery of health promotion programmes in the wider Wellington region. The PHA will help build community capacity to address health issues, build and maintain collaborative partnerships with district health boards; primary health organisations; non-governmental organisations; local, regional and central government; other government agencies; and with health, education and social services to improve health and wellbeing outcomes within our region.
This PHA position will focus on a Health in All Policies approach as well as supporting RPH’s work in urban design and transport and healthy housing. The PHA will also contribute to integrated projects that are delivered by staff working together across Regional Public Health.
You will enjoy working alongside public health practitioners, senior and fellow public health advisors, managers and external stakeholders in a complex health environment. A preference and aptitude for teamwork is essential. You will also need to be a polished written and oral communicator that presents your work in crisp and simple language adapted to the needs of a variety of audiences.
Improving Māori health outcomes and reducing inequities are key priorities therefore commitment to improving health equity and experience in analysis and presentation of data that is accessible and relevant to Māori, is desirable.
Ideally you will have a qualification in public health with at least two years’ experience in public health. You must have permanent residency or a valid long term working visa to be considered for this position.
