About the Role

Are you looking for a Nursing role in mental health, addiction or intellectual disability services?  Are you a graduate nurse, or an experienced nurse wishing to move into the speciality field of mental health, addiction or intellectual disability nursing.  The Nurse Entry to Specialist Practice Program (NESP) is an opportunity for you to upskill and complete the post graduate program in mental health nursing that will support your development of specialist MHAIDS skills and knowledge.

We are looking for nurses who are dedicated professionals who can support Tangata Whaiora in their individual recovery journeys; we are also seeking nurses who possesses skills and experience working with individuals from various cultural backgrounds. 

If you are successful, you will be a part of our dynamic mental health and addictions service. You will collaborate with a wide range of community and inpatient mental health professionals and network with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) across the Kapiti, Hutt Valley, Wellington and the Wairarapa regions. Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively are essential to your success.

About the Service Location

MHAIDS spans two districts - Wairarapa, Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAID services are provided from multiple sites within the sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa. Te Korowai Whāriki services include regional forensic and rehabilitation services covering the Central region while the intellectual disability services extend the length and breadth of the country from six bases located in Whangarei, Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.  

About you

You will be committed to Ti Tiriti partnership in health care practice.  You will be passionate about making a difference for tangata whaiora and whanau whose lives are impacted by mental illness.  You will have excellent time management and people skills. You will have solid critical thinking skills and evidence-based knowledge that underpins your nursing practice.

  • Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) 
  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) and scope appropriate to place of work 
  • Full drivers licence
  • Must be NZ Citizen or hold residency
