About the Role
We’re looking for passionate and motivated Registered Nurses to join our vibrant and dynamic Emergency Department at Hutt Hospital to cover 1 year maternity leave cover. Whether you're seeking a fresh challenge or looking to continue developing your advanced critical thinking and emergency care skills, this is an exciting opportunity to grow your nursing career in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
As part of our ED team, you'll work alongside experienced clinicians in a department that sees a wide range of presentations and provides excellent opportunities for learning, professional development, and clinical leadership. We value clinical excellence, teamwork, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to every patient who walks through our doors.
About the Team/Service Location
Hutt Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) is part of the Hospital Operations Group within the Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district. As one of six key operational groups across the district’s provider services, it supports care ranging from primary to tertiary level and serves not only the local community but also the wider Central Region. Operating across Wellington Regional, Hutt, and Kenepuru Hospitals, the group delivers responsive and high-quality care to a diverse and often high-acuity patient population.
Hutt ED is a dynamic and fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. The team is highly adaptable, responding to a wide range of presentations, including a significant number of Māori, Pasifika, and elderly patients with complex health and social needs. As such, our care is grounded in cultural safety, clinical excellence, and a strong sense of equity and inclusion.
We are a vibrant, professional, and caring team who role model what it means to work as a whānau. We support each other through the challenges and celebrate our collective achievements. With a strong commitment to staff development, Hutt ED offers structured opportunities to grow clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and leadership capability. We take pride in fostering advanced nursing roles and offer well-established education pathways that encourage nurses to progress and thrive in emergency care.
If you are a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse—whether bringing prior ED experience or eager to develop in this specialty—we welcome you to join a team that values learning, support, and making a real difference in the lives of our patients.
About you
You are a compassionate and professional nurse who brings curiosity, energy, and a willingness to learn. You thrive in a team environment, value respectful communication, and are committed to providing safe, effective, and equitable care. Emergency experience is an advantage, but just as important is a positive attitude, adaptability, and a desire to build your emergency nursing skills within a supportive team.
At Hutt ED, we pride ourselves on being more than just colleagues—we’re a work whānau. We support each other through the busy shifts and the tough days, and we celebrate the wins together. If you’re ready to be part of a team that values fun, teamwork, and genuine care, then we’d love to hear from you.
