Registered Nurse - Perioperative Department
Location: Hutt Hospital
Contract: Part Time 0.8 FTE Rostered and Rotating
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
The Perioperative Department manages the patient’s surgical journey before and after theatre. Our care is patient centred and multidisciplinary. We work closely with Health Care Assistants, Theatre Nurses, Anaesthetists, Anaesthetic Technicians and Surgeons.
As a member of our Perioperative Department Team you will primarily be rostered to work in PACU. Although we love our work areas, some of us interchange between areas which gives a global perspective of our Department and variety in the workplace. As part of your orientation you will be exposed to all areas of the Perioperative Department so experience in Surgical Admission Unit (SAU) and Day Surgical Unit (DSU) are beneficial. Second Stage Recovery (SSR) is part of the wider Perioperative team. Knowledge of SSR is ideal but not essential.
Orientation and extensive education will be given to successful candidate(s). Expect to work with the full spectrum of age groups and walks of life.
About the Team/Service Location
The Perioperative Department consists of Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), Second Stage Recovery (SSR), Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU), Day Surgical Unit (DSU), Acute Pain Management Service (APMS) and Vascular Access.
The PACU will now be staffed on a 24 hour basis therefore all shifts will be rostered and rotating. Please do not apply if you cannot work night shift. SSR is staffed Monday – Friday and closes Saturdays at 1530, SAU is staffed Monday – Friday 0700-1530. DSU is staffed from 0700 – 2030. SSR is staffed from Monday 0700 – Saturday 1530.
