Registered Nurse – Second Stage Recovery

Location: Hutt Hospital

Contract: Fixed contract, 1.0, rostered and rotating

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

Are you a nurse who thrives in a fast paced, patient focused environment?  Do you enjoy working with independent patients and supporting their surgical journey?  If so Second Stage Recovery (SSR) at Hutt Hospital might be perfect for you.

At SSR we care for patients who are independent and have surgical wounds (or are about to have one).  Our patients come from all the surgical specialities at Hutt Hospital – ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Maxillofacial and Plastic surgery.

We are a high turnover unit with a supportive, strong team culture and we pride ourselves on delivering safe, efficient, compassionate care.  Our hours are Monday 0700 – Saturday 1500 and we work rostered and rotating shifts to cover these times.

We occasionally work within the Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU) and Day Surgical Unit (DSU) providing some variety in our daily work.

If this role interests you, you could be who we are looking for to fill a vacancy to cover parental leave on a fixed term basis.

About the Team/Service

The perioperative department plays a crucial role in the delivery of surgical care in hospitals. Its purpose and structure revolve around supporting patients through the entire surgical journey — from preoperative assessment, postoperative recovery, Day Surgical Unit and overnight stays in Second Stage Recovery.
