Registered Nurse – Second Stage Recovery
Location: Hutt Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.7 FTE, rostered and rotating)
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. About the Role
Are you a nurse who thrives in a fast paced, patient focused environment? Do you enjoy working with independent patients and supporting them through their surgical journey? If so Second Stage Recovery (SSR) at Hutt Hospital might be perfect for you.
At SSR we care for patients who are largely independent, have surgical wounds or are about to have one. Our patients come from all the surgical specialities at Hutt Hospital – ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Maxillofacial and Plastic surgery.
We are a high turnover unit with a strong, supportive team culture and we pride ourselves on delivering safe, efficient, compassionate care. Currently we are open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to accommodate the demand of inpatient beds during the winter period. As such flexibility to work shifts across the full weeks is essential. From October services will return to our standard operating hours Monday 0700 to Saturday 1500.
Occasionally, we also support the Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU) and Day Surgical Unit (DSU) offering additional variety and opportunities within our daily work.
About the Team/Service Location
The perioperative department plays a crucial role in the delivery of surgical care in hospitals. Its purpose and structure revolve around supporting patients through the entire surgical journey — from preoperative assessment, postoperative recovery, Day Surgical Unit and overnight stays in Second Stage Recovery.
