Ward Administrator


Location: Hutt Hospital, Medical Ward

Contract: Permanent, part-time, rostered and rotating (0.8 FTE)

About the Role 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Ward Administrator to join our Medical Ward team at Hutt Hospital. In this role, you will provide high-quality administrative and clerical support to ensure the ward operates efficiently, smoothly, and professionally. This is a varied position that involves a high level of customer contact and teamwork.

As the first point of contact for patients, whānau, and visitors, you will play a key role in creating a positive and welcoming experience. Exceptional customer service is essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-standard reception and clerical services
  • Managing patient medical records with accuracy and confidentiality
  • Confidently using hospital computer systems to support clinical and administrative processes
  • Booking transport, managing appointments, supporting nursing staff with ordering equipment

This is a part-time role working 32 hours per week, in rostered and rotating shifts. Possible shifts are 0730-1600, 1200-2030 during the week, and 0830-1700 during the weekend. You will be rostered to work one weekend every 4 weeks. The salary range is $66,611 - $75,628 pro-rata.

About the Team/Service Location 

The General Medical Ward is a busy 54 bedded ward based in the Hutt Hospital in Lower Hutt. We have a multicultural workforce who strive to provide excellent care to our patients. You will be joining a team of workers who are passionate about what they do and work closely together to ensure all our patients and whanau receive the best possible care. 

About you 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following skills and experience:

  •   Passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming environment 
  •   Proven administrative experience with strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  •   Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team 
  •   Strong organisational skills and ability to manage tasks under pressure 
  •   Commitment to confidentiality and privacy standards 
  •   Proficient in computer systems; knowledge of hospital systems is an advantage 
  •   Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the ward 
  •   Previous experience in the health sector preferred
