Clinical Nurse Specialist – Respiratory

Salary: NZNO MECA $116,040 – $133,902 (Pro-rata and based on skills and experience)
Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
The roles comprise of 0.8 FTE based at Hutt with a respiratory focus. The second position is 0.7 FTE based at Capital & Coast with a Respiratory and sleep focus. These are District level roles and you may choose a site as your main working location but you will be asked to work at different sites.
The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Respiratory includes working within a multidisciplinary team with other nurses, doctors and allied health. Focus population is chronic airways management working across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. This role has great variety and covers outpatient clinics for patients with mainly asthma and COPD conditions. It also involves inpatient visits for respiratory patients to give advice, support and management of airways disease with inpatient teams and ward staff. There is also the opportunity to work with a variety of community providers supporting patients on discharge from hospital. The Capital, Coast role also includes running sleep clinics across the district and working alongside the sleep team to support patients across the district.
Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team
The Respiratory Service is part of the Sub-Speciality Medicine Group. The CCHV District Respiratory service provides secondary and tertiary care for patients with respiratory and sleep related breathing disorders. It provides outpatient services at Wellington, Hutt Valley, Kapiti, Wairarapa and Kenepuru hospitals and in patient services at Wellington Regional Hospital and Hutt Hospital. Outreach sleep clinics are provided at Hutt and Masterton hospitals and community sleep clinics are provided in Porirua region.
The service is fully supported by a full equipped pulmonary function laboratory with core and complex testing at Wellington, Kenepuru and Hutt Hospital.
Across the CCHV District, the team is made up of 12 Senior Medical Officers, 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists, one Nurse Practitioner, one Respiratory Physiotherapist, 9 Respiratory Physiologists, 2 Respiratory Registrars, one Sleep Registrar Advanced Trainee posts, 1 basic Trainee post and a House Officer.
Moū – About you
CCHV Respiratory are looking for a CNS who can walk straight into the role as a senior clinician with great experience and knowledge of working with Respiratory patients. Ideally the candidate would be a designated RN prescriber or working towards this with post graduate papers. The candidate would be well organised and able to multitask with the pressures and expectations of the role. They would be a real team player and be prepared to step up when needed to keep the department running smoothly. They would also be motivated and always looking for ways to improve and grow the service.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
A.Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Clinical expertise and experience aligning with Respiratory.
- A minimum of three years’ full-time equivalent practice in the area the RN is approved to prescribe, with at least one year of the total practice in New Zealand or a similar healthcare context
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation and coaching skills
- Experience in practice development and quality improvement strategies
- Comprehensive knowledge informs NZ Health System understanding including equity issues, professional leadership and emerging issues for the nursing profession.
B.Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations:
- Expert level in Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) and committed to maintain Expert/Senior (CC) or Expert (HV) PDRP
- Designated prescribing authorisation with the NCNZ for RN prescribing in primary health and specialty teams.
